New MTV videos

I have two videos I posted up on the MTV blog.

The first is on Stephen Webber, the Democratic candidate for the 23rd district of the Missouri State House. He has a very interesting story. At 25 he is running as the youngest candidate. He grew up in Columbia Mo, and graduated with a degree in economics from my alma mater, Saint Louis University. His graduation was delayed twice with tours in Iraq. He served as a Marine with one of the tours in Fallujah. He worked in DC for Claire McCaskill before he announced his bid for state house. He has a great grip on the issues. There is much more to the guy, so I will likely be doing another piece sometime next month.

Don't forget to vote next Tuesday.

This video is an interview with Magan Wiles. She is a young woman, also studied at Saint Louis University, who went to Palestine to see what was going on. She returned home and in order for her to express what she experienced she put together a rather heavy play called "Beautiful Resistance."

Our man Vlad

Vlad made the Time Mag Man of the Year. Interesting choice. Certainly better than last year's choice, that is for sure. Adi Ignatius, the man who wrote the piece for Time said this was a typical political joke in Russia:

Stalin's ghost appears to Putin in a dream, and Putin asks for his help running the country. Stalin says, "Round up and shoot all the democrats, and then paint the inside of the Kremlin blue." "Why blue?" Putin asks. "Ha!" says Stalin. "I knew you wouldn't ask me about the first part."

That is a funny joke.

Putin is a bad man.

There are many new ways to oppress Democracy around the world. And it is happening. Burma. China. Russia. Zimbabwe. Haiti. This New World Order is not working out the way it we thought what the world was going to be like after we defeated the Communists. We, the leaders of the free world, have really dropped the ball. We were supposed to enter an age of peace and naturally spreading Democracy around the globe, ever since we beat the Commies and the scourge of their flawed ideology. I am curious if we will ever again to have such the influential hand to do lead the world again with the mantle of freedom and democracy? Sad...

Check this interesting BBC documentary if you got a sec. It is I think a very interesting piece, and I hits a lot of points in our culture that is rarely recognized. I have posted about this documentary before.
