Final Debate Party tonight!

Reminder that the Royale will be hosting a final Presidential debate watch party tonight. The debate starts at 8 and goes to about 9:30. We will be running a special menu this evening for the peoples with specials on vegi burgers and all american hot dogs. We will also debut an exclusive cocktail "That One" which consists of whiskey, cinnamon and cider.

We will also have pumpkin carving in the backyard for any who want to make some election themed pumpkins. We already have a few carved (thank you Leslie and Kelly.) Check out http://yeswecarve.com/

We still have Obama shirts available, especially the popular South Side for Obama shirts- this is the last run we are going to get, so get them now before they are out! All money after the cost of the shirts is going to the Obama campaign. http://www.myspace.com/southside4obama

We also will have a select number of the Shepard Fairey posters and some yard signs that we will be giving away after a history quiz after the debates.

This crew contacted me and plans on stopping by on Saturday night:

"The Obama Mobile (www.artthechange.org/obamamobile): a VW bus painted with Obama Stencil Art is traveling across the country through each swing state in order to bolster hope & energy, galvanize local volunteers, support grassroot campaign efforts and generate media attention. The bus is half-way through its trip and will be stopping in St. Louis this coming Friday and Saturday. The bus is a moving political art station engaging people with stencil t-shirt, yard sign and mural-making projects. A filmmaker is documenting the mobile's swing state trek in order to capture the vibrant grassroots nature of the Obama campaign. Join up with the Obama Mobile during its stay at one of the following locations:

Friday Evening 5pm – 10pm - "The Loop" University City (on Delmar)

Saturday morning 10am – noon – Central West End

Saturday afternoon 2pm – 6pm – South Grand

Saturday evening 8pm – 1:30am the Royale"

United We Stand! Register to Vote! & more

So this is going to be a more interesting Royale email.  So pay attention!! There is much to digest.

I Register to vote
II DNC & RNC viewings
III Yard Signs available
IV Misc

I Register to vote

Even if you have not made up your mind on the election this fall make sure you *register* to vote and make sure you go to the polls.  We have voter registration forms behind the bar.  The final day of registration for Missouri is October 8th.

This is a very important election year, so please please if you live in Missouri, REGISTER IN MISSOURI.  Are you currently on a short stay out of town and miss the election?  BE SURE TO REGISTER AND VOTE IN MISSOURI.  You can get an absentee ballot, but be sure to do it in time!

So maybe you are already registered to vote?  Well I am sure you have some friends or family that might not be registered, so bring your unregistered friends down for a drink or bring your grandmother for lunch and ask the bartender about registering to vote.

Here is an online resource if you don't get a chance to belly up to the bar: http://www.sos.mo.gov/elections/s_default.asp?id=voter

II DNC and RNC viewing parties

So this week has been the big DNC party in Denver.  There have been viewing parties every night.  The Young Dems of STL are hosting a big party for Barack Obama's acceptance speech will be at the Moolah Theater on Lindell across from SLU.

There are other parties around town but the Royale will be holding a more low-key viewing party on Thursday.

However, the Royale will also be doing a first- holding a viewing party for the RNC next week for John McCain's acceptance speech on Sept 4th.  Invites for Sept 4th viewing party are extended to all Americans; Democrats, Republicans and the thirsty.  All those concerned about the future of our country.  Regardless of what you think of the President Bush, John McCain and Republicans or even Barack Obama and the Democrats we are all Americans who are here to make this country work.

Yes, I have put a series of paintings on the side of the building supporting our choice for the next President of the US, Barack Obama.  You may differ, but the point is to find out as much as possible and make up your own mind.  So come down to the Royale to discuss with your neighbors about the future of our country.

III Yard Signs

We have Barack Obama yard signs!!  The Royale purchased a number of yard signs from the STL Young Dems and we have a special offer if you are looking to obtain one at no cost.

So just email me a story, haiku, picture, video about your favorite President(or prez candidate) of the United States.  Please keep it clean kids, my mother is going to review the pieces!  Then we will let you know when to pick up the signs!

If you don't want to mess around with my tomfoolery for the signs, you can buy them through the YDSTL
online: http://www.youngdems.com/
or email: ydstlouis@gmail.com

Video of the Obama Royale!

Here is the video of installation of the painted Shepherd Fairey designs on the side of the Royale. We interview Richard Rodriguez, the creator/painter of the pieces that are now on the side of the Royale.

Here is the invite once again to Saturday's party:

Young Democrats of Greater St. Louis invite you to the unveiling party for three Obama Campaign Billboard sized paintings on the exterior of the Royale Food and Spirits Saturday July 19th from 4p-10pm.

Richard Rodriguez has created a series of 9 foot by 6 foot paintings based on the print artist Shepherd Fairey's renderings of the Barack Obama presidential campaign posters: Hope, Change and Progress. See the set here.

Here is more about Shepherd Fairey from the Washington Post's article on the guerilla nature of his work:
Who knows how many do-it-yourself reproductions of Fairey's Obama have been scanned off the Internet. "I have no idea. I think a lot," says the artist, who put the image on the Web in a downloadable file. "I've seen it on stencils, fliers, shirts, Web sites, places we had nothing to do with." Copyright infringement? No, no, no. "This is exactly what I wanted to happen." This isn't a limited-edition print. It's unlimited. He charged $25 to $45 for the first runs of 950 posters, to pay for the printing of the all the rest, which were free. Fairey says he hasn't made a dime off Obama nor does he think he has unfairly glommed onto the candidate.

Richard Rodriguez created these paintings "to do my small part to get Obama elected president...."
